Day 33 — Saturday, April 18, 2020 or a social distancing anniversary

Today is our 11th wedding anniversary. And how different today was from the actual day! And not just because we are all staying at home because of the coronavirus.

This is what we woke up to today:

Yes, that’s snow. On April 18. In Massachusetts. And yes, we have had big April snowstorms here before, but I don’t remember one occurring after the first week of April. This year has just been so strange, makes me wonder if the locust swarms are next…

Anyway, back to our anniversary — yes, this was not the weather we had on that Saturday 11 years ago. Sure my husband-to-be was a little sad that the grass wasn’t greener that day for our outside photos and it was a little overcast, but it was not cold enough for snow. I had sandal-like heels on and didn’t even bother wearing the shawl I had made for my dress (I wonder where that shawl is now…)

I can’t imagine the drama that snow would have caused on our wedding day. Oh, how folks would have been so stressed in the days before the event! I’m sure we would have gotten several cancellations.

But we survived that day and the years since, so tonight to celebrate, in the middle of a pandemic, my husband has been smoking pork ribs on our outdoor smoker. He made his own rub last night, the ribs dry marinated in it for a good 12 hours, and they’ll be on the smoker for 6. I picked out a bottle of wine from one of my favorite wineries. It will be a nice quiet night with good food and drink, which is basically what we did 11 years ago, minus the quiet part. I couldn’t ask for anything else.
